London, UK 8th July 2008 – Lighting maintenance specialists Weblight has selected DeviceLock to guard against data leakage from employees computers and uncontrolled use of locally connected devices, ensuring that no information can be removed or copied from the corporate system without permission and giving the firm absolute confidence in its security...

Designed for Microsoft Windows operating systems and featuring a comprehensive central management natively integrated with Microsoft Active Directory®, DeviceLock software enables to precisely control, log, shadow-copy, and audit end-user access to any type of computer’s ports and peripheral devices including local, network and virtual printers, as well as block operations of USB and PS/2 hardware keyloggers.

Unlike solutions that simply disable the port completely, DeviceLock offers a layer of management, so that the IT department can dynamically change settings as appropriate from a central location making the solution completely flexible. With DeviceLock, Weblight can centrally and granularly define which types of data specified individuals or groups are allowed to download on to a Windows Mobile® or Palm® OS device. It covers the wide range of mobile device-related data leakage threats including the possibility of uncontrollably losing valuable data when a user syncs their mobile device with their work PC.

“We were concerned that unauthorised devices could be connected to the IT Systems, especially our laptops, allowing confidential information to be lost or stolen. Our sales team work right across the country, so the fear was that confidential customer and company information could be at risk,” said Matthew Cole, IT Systems Administrator at Weblight.

“Weblight has a large remote workforce so for a company that wants to protect the data on their employee’s laptops this is a really proactive step, said Sacha Chahrvin, managing director at DeviceLock UK.” As well as the issue of data leakage, viruses, spyware and other sinister malware programmes can easily be transmitted through USB devices so a comprehensive endpoint security solution is the most effective way to mitigate this risk. DeviceLock will help protect the confidential data of Weblight, and that of its clients, it also helps to ensure that the firm complies with data protection legislation.”
